Umall Project Story
Discovery
The main target client are all university students who hope they can purchase items for campus through online shopping.
The sector was this project for e-commerce.
The platform we design for is smartphone with both Android and IOS.
My role of discovery is to collect the data from the U of T students.

Interpretation
My role of interpretation part is to do the data analysis.

The data analysis and conclusion was made for each survey question. Each of the category data was counted to find the mode. Due to the survey questions, data could not be calculated for the mean or median. All the data was used since there were no obvious outliers for survey questions.

The affinity diagram are developed in this part, and we concluded sticker notes from data analysis. According to the analysis, we made the persona, empathy map and As-Is scenario.

The software tools we used for persona is Xtensio website.

Ideation
For the ideation part, we are designing the ideas of features of the Umall application according to the need statements drawn from the persona. My role in this part is to develop the ideas and made the prioritization grid.

During our ideation process, at first, we wrote down our ideas on sticky notes separately. We then clustered the ideas; we adhered similar ideas and ideas which satisfy the same needs together on the whiteboard. 7 categories were made for our clustered ideas, which were condition and quality of items, security of information, quick shipment, comparison of prices, seller reviews, communication with sellers, and payment option.

Experimentation
My role for this part is to conduct interviews to gather data based on our Paper Prototype of the
University Mall app. The interviews were organized in high traffic zones within school
Library. The interviews were mainly unstructured but did have a few structured questions so
that we may receive feedback regarding specific elements of the app. The questions
themselves were loosely based on four control questions. The responses are summarized so
the data conveys the critical information required for the collection.

Evolution
This is my first UX design project. During the process of design, I have learned the value of the
five phases involved in creating our prototype the University Mall app.
In the discovery phase of design thinking, we realized that it is important to connect with the intended
audience to understand how they think and behave through the use of effective interviews and
surveys.
In the interpretation phase, it taught us the importance of
understanding our users’ needs by focusing on storytelling and empathetic reasoning.
In the ideation phase, we learned that innovative approaches always come from brainstorming with
our team and understanding the user viewpoint. All of us used this opportunity to gain inspiration from different people’s ideas.
In the experimentation phase, we realized that it is necessary to conduct iterative usability testing before building the product so that we can validate our hypotheses. Last but not least, the value of the evolution phase is to think about the next cycle of discovery to improve usability for our app and to enhance user experiences.
